The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the only examination that lets a Class 12 student become an officer-cadet in the Indian Army, Navy or Air Force at the age of 17 to 19. For the NDA II 2026 cycle, for example, UPSC announced 394 vacancies for the 158th NDA course and the 120th Indian Naval Academy Course, both starting on 1 July 2027. Who can apply?
• Nationality and status: Indian citizen (other categories are listed in the notification); unmarried male and female candidates.
• Education: For the Army wing, Class 12 in any stream. For the Air Force and Naval wings and the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme, Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics. Students appearing in Class 12 can also apply.

The SSB interview in five days
• Day 1 (Screening): Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT). Only those who pass stay for the next days.
• Day 2 (Psychology): Thematic Apperception Test, Word Association, Situation Reaction and Self-Description tests.
• Days 3 and 4 (GTO and interview): Group tasks, outdoor tasks and the personal interview.
